Roads are the main mode of transport in India, carrying 90% of the country’s passenger traffic and 65% of its freight. The density of India’s highway network is among the highest in the world, at 0.66km/sq km of land. Most highways are narrow and poorly maintained, however, something that the Government of India is in the process of rectifying with the National Highway Development program. This aims to increase the number of lanes and improve road surfaces of highways across India through a seven-phase program to be completed by 2015.
Another one of our core areas, the laying of highways is mainly what has fuelled our phenomenal growth over the past six years. With four major projects involving various National Highways, and many more in the pipeline, we have what it takes to sustain and even surpass our current rate of growth with this sector as a base to build on.
